We woke with the birds and packed up swiftly to get on the road.
Today’s ride was phenomenal we had a bit of climbing round the coast, but were rewarded with an epic descent. The roads were swamped with roadies so we knew we were in for a good ride.
The view of the Cormandel got us excited of what was to come and the anticipation of the challenge was pushing us along quickly. So we had soon crossed into the Hauraki district.
We stopped at this awesome back packers and were tempted to stay in their beautiful cabin. We met the owner Neil who was an absolute gem. We chatted about the local area and roads. He has advised us not to bother with the Cormandel since the traffic for new years will be hectic. We have decided to detour it and do it on our way back.
The day was so beautiful we didn’t want it to finished so we pushed on.
We ended up in a quaint ‘freedom’ campsite outside a fish and chip shop.
Cooked ourselves our first on the road ‘tasty touring treats’!! Tangy tomato, sweet potato and quinoa.
