There was some busy roads towards Thames due to the NY so we stopped in a little haven for some tasty delights. The owner was a fellow cyclist and gave us some local knowledge regarding trails and tricks of the road.

Just round the corner we got onto our first rail to trail, the Hauraki trail. This was meant to be the boring section but with a mountain range for a backdrop and being off the busy roads we were in heaven.

At Paeroa we turned East and started through the canyon and were pleased for the shade it provided. The trail is ideal for touring cyclist with 1.35+in tyres.

On route we met Ludo and his friends. He had cycled from Belgium (lad) and it had taken him three years. Here is his blog to check out his adventure. He definitely gave me a new motivation to cycle home to England.
