After a morning spend in Rogers workshop we got the new cassettes (11t-34t XT’s), chains and in my case chainring fitted and called the Bike Barn on Auckland’s seafront to arrange to pick up some bike box’s later that day.

We repacked the bags so our hand luggage was in Alex’s yellow panniers (they have shoulder straps) and everything else was ready to perchance we got to Auckland. Els and Roger took us the scenic way back to the ferry port, nothing like being lead out by your WarmShowers hosts as they always know the best roads, and after saying our good byes boarded the ferry just in time.

Although we were not the only bikes on board as a whole peloton of roadies had their carbon fibre having up at the back as well. Thing if I tried the same trick with my Troll it would snap the hook clean off the boat.

Arriving in Auckland it turned out that there was a huge Open Streets festival taking place, celebrating all forms of sustainable green transport, mainly the bike!

We milled a bout for a bit as we headed to the Bike Barn. Here the guys not only dug out a couple of box’s for us, but gave us free run of the workshop and tools in order to pack them up properly. Thanks so much guys you rock!

After squeezing the stuffed box’s into the back of a taxi we headed to the airport and a long uncomfortable night waiting for our flight to Melbourne, Australia.

Touring Tip: Dont rely on the airport having anything worth eating and instead spend your last few dollars on a decent pack-up!
