Sunday night saw the inaugural Southsea Fixed Gear Cycling ‘Pondemonium’ TT race take place around canoe lake, Southsea. ‘Read More’ for full race report including video and photos!
With the diligent time keepers in place on the start/finish line and confirmation from a local dog walker that ‘they used to do that round here on penny farthings’ we were set to start.
Ben laid down the first time around the 0.4 mile track with a respectable 51 sec, which was not bad considering the poor visibility and damp slippy surface.
This was enough to hold top spot for a while, until Kirill traded the shopper for his new Tange and smashing it by 4 sec.
We had a couple of incidents of riders running wide and mounting the grass in their attempts to take gold whilst others were taking it a bit too cautiously in an attempt to avoid sliding into ‘the drink’.
I was obviously breaking the speed of light barrier, became invisible to the naked eye at the point this photo was taken!
Unfortunately for Kirill the pride of both Lithuania and Bike U Like, Arunas, was last to compete. After ripping his chain off on his first attempt he left it all out on the track, take the win by just 0.03 of a second!
At the back end of the evening the racing gave way to reliving our youth by skidding around the Tarmac. For some, mainly me, this was a new and very exciting experience that got the adrenaline rushing through my body, love it!!
Hopefully this is the start of many more Southsea based TT’s to come.
